The Compliance and Ethics Attorney interacts with the members of the Firms Ethics, Client Intake, and Executive Committees, attorneys, and Conflicts Department staff to oversee various risk management efforts of the Firm, including the conflicts checking and new business intake processes. The Compliance and Ethics Attorney also coordinates with Firm clients regarding secondments, waivers, and consents. The Compliance and Ethics Attorney also provides research and legal guidance regarding ethics, professional responsibility, and compliance issues across the Firm. Your responsibilities as a Compliance and Ethics Attorney will include these and other critical functions: Developing and maintaining substantive knowledge of, and familiarity with, the legal ethics, professional responsibility, and law firm legal compliance rules applicable in all of the Firms geographic jurisdictions with a focus on New York rules. Providing support and guidance for attorneys in the Firms transactional practices, including assistance with complex transactional ethics issues, overseeing ethics and compliance relating to the firms secondment procedures, and serving as the firms primary contact for waivers and consents for our financial services clients. Overseeing ethical and compliance issues relating to intake and conflicts clearance for New York and Boston office lateral candidates. Providing guidance for the Firms conflicts-checking processes and new business intake functions, including developing new and streamlined ways to assess, review, and clear conflicts of interest and intake business effectively and efficiently, with a focus on the needs of our attorneys in transactional practices. Serving as a resource for a team of conflicts analysts and assistants to ensure accuracy and consistency in the review of conflict reports, determining areas of concern, conferring with Firm lawyers as needed to resolve issues, and providing advice in connection with the resolution of potential conflicts. Providing guidance for the Firms Conflict Attorney team on conflicts and ethics issues, as well as special projects. Assisting with the review and analysis of outside counsel guidelines, engagement letters, and other terms of engagement with firm clients. Assisting the General Counsel, Assistant General Counsels, and members of the Firms Ethics, Client Intake, and Ethics Committees in researching and resolving complex ethics and compliance questions, and providing advice and direction on ethics and risk management matters. Providing administrative support and legal guidance for Ethics Committee projects and participating in Ethics Subcommittee activities, including performing audits relating to ethics and compliance. Providing research, legal guidance, and administrative support to other committees and attorneys of the firm engaged in compliance and/or business intake issues, including recruiting, bar admissions committee, and others. Drafting, or assisting Firm attorneys in drafting, engagement, waiver, and accountants letters, and ethics wall memoranda. Conducting training programs on ethics issues and conflicts compliance. As a Compliance and Ethics Attorney, you will be expected to apply your organizational and communication skills while displaying a positive, high-energy attitude. The successful Compliance and Ethics Attorney candidate must exhibit an advanced ability to perceive and analyze problems, develop alternative strategies to solve them, and possess knowledge of legal ethics and all facets of legal practice. Knowledge and proficiency in PC applications, including MS Office, is a must. A Bachelor's degree, a law degree from an accredited law school, and an active bar membership are required. Conflicts and other ethics experience is strongly preferred and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant law firm experience is desired. Knowledge and experience regarding transactional law and related ethics issues and knowledge of New York ethical rules is ideal.
